Wind energy

Artelia is a growing player in the wind sector, having been commissioned for studies and works in the framework of EPC or design and construction management contracts for about a hundred wind farms.

Artelia handles the deep foundations, civil engineering, electricity, automation systems and roads and utilities work packages. The Group has the engineering expertise required to build wind farm access roads and tracks, storage and lifting platforms and electrical delivery substations, design MV cable routings and deploy optical fibre. It also performs studies related to power producer PLCs, and oversees all phases of works supervision, planning and coordination from approval of the working designs through to assistance with acceptance procedures.

A wide range of activities

Civil engineering and structural design office SECOA performs working design studies (design calculations, formwork drawings) for wind turbine bases and anchor cages. The methodology used by its teams is TUV-certified.

Design office Gantha, which specialises in wind turbine acoustics, provides assistance to turbine manufacturers, developers and operators. At the initial project stages it performs baseline noise assessments and predictive calculations, and also assists during the monitoring and compliance phases.

In France, wind farms are classified as hazardous installations and must hence comply with strict regulations governing noise limits. In this framework, Gantha can perform a specific noise assessment during the various phases of project development and operation:

  • Predictive impact assessments
  • Post-installation acceptance procedures
  • Periodic inspections

This ensures that wind farms comply with the statutory noise limits and operate at maximum output, whether they have already been constructed or are under development.

A key assignment performed by Artelia involved performing the studies for a complete offshore electrical substation representing an investment of €200m.

Turnkey installation of wind farms:

This project was implemented in the framework of a partnership with General Electric and Envision to assemble and commission wind turbines, with Artelia contributing to the designs and works on the roads and utilities, deep foundations, civil engineering, electricity and automation systems aspects.

Artelia continued its partnership with Velocita (a European specialist in the development and operation of wind farms) by overseeing the construction of the facilities at Rougemont and Vaite, which wil
