Sogreah Gulf carried out the design of the artificial islands offshore Abu Dhabi with especially the shore protection. Each island was approximately about 500m wide.
The Client wished to verify the hydraulic stability of the shore protection, so both alternatives design were tested in ARTELIA’s laboratory.
Both 2D and 3D physical modelling were performed with the objectives to compare the single layer technique and the berm breakwater solution, to verify the stability and to measure the overtopping for the sections surrounding the most exposed Islands.
The detailed comparison of various solutions including ACCROPODE™II armour and berm breakwater was done implying 3D scan measurements.
