Programme to reduce physical and financial losses on the drinking water network (funded by FASEP)
Context & Issues

In a region that is particularly hit by water shortages, the Office National de l’Eau et de l’Assainissement de Djibouti (ONEAD – Djibouti National Water and Sanitation Commission) benefits from significant investment programmes to increase the available water resources and improve their distribution. However, with its network efficiency rate currently at 45%, the ONEAD cannot guarantee a continuous drinking water supply.

The objective of the project is to develop a programme to reduce physical and financial losses on the ONEAD’s drinking water network (400 km). This study, which is funded by a donation from the General Treasury, will have an impact on the 600,000 inhabitants of the city of Djibouti, including the Balbala district.

Project characteristics
  • 600,000 inhabitants
  • 80 km of the network requiring rehabilitation works
