Improvement of the stormwater drainage system in the city of Pointe Noire

Improvement of the stormwater drainage system in the city of Pointe Noire
Context & Issues

The city of Pointe-Noire (1 million inhabitants in 2013), considered as the economic capital of the country, has been undergoing very fast and uncontrolled urban growth in the past decades. The Municipal Council is facing a large number of challenges in the context of its plans to modernise the city, including flooding issues that have increased significantly in the past few years.

The existing drainage system is antiquated and insufficient (only 50 km of pipe network at the moment). In this context, the project aims to reduce flood-prone areas and improve health, safety and urban comfort conditions for the inhabitants.
