Istanbul canal project
The Government of the Republic of Turkey is trying to reduce the excessive pressure on the Bosphorus Channel, which connects the Black Sea to the Marmara Sea. This channel is exposed to bigger international maritime traffic each year, and to prevent the miserable events in the country after a probable sea accident, the Government wants to have an alternative waterways study.
The objective of this study is to determine an alternative passage between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea by construction of a new canal. The possible canal routes will be determined within a specific Project Site and the proposed route will be determined by making office and field studies to determine the alternative that best satisfies the economic and environmental conditions in the specified routes.
Yuksel Proje (YP) has been requested by the Ministry of Transport Maritime Affairs and Communication to perform the studies related to the new canal. In order to support YP, Artelia was awarded a subcontract which covers most of the technical tasks directly related to the canal infrastructures.
