Context & Issues

The sacrificial anode system is used to protect maritime infrastructure from corrosion. This technology is widely used to protect ports, offshore platforms and many ships. The anodes will protect the foundations of the wind turbines and the substation at the Saint-Nazaire wind farm from corrosion, thereby guaranteeing the service life of the foundations throughout the wind farm’s exploitation period. They will be made mainly of aluminium (95%) and will be installed inside and outside the foundations.

The objective of the assignment is to perform a numerical simulation to quantify dilution of aluminium in the marine environment resulting from corrosion of sacrificial anodes in the metal structures of the wind turbines planned for the wind farm on the banc de Guérande sand ridge.
