Doha Metro Red and Gold Lines

Doha Metro
Context & Issues

Qatar Rail is the company in charge of developing the brand new underground lines for the Doha metro system, in Qatar.

Artelia is in charge of the developing the design and drafting the shop drawings for the implementation of the fit-out works on seven stations on the new Red Line, having being appointed by Italian contractor Italiana Costruzioni.

The high level of finishing, the complex geometry of the interior walls and ceilings and the attention to detail require a precise study of the materials selected and of the related interfaces, as well as the implementation of special construction methods and work sequences. The entire design is being developed with BIM techniques, using Revit software and other 3D modelling software.

Coordination with MEP installations requires the production of clash detection reports facilitating the identification of solutions shared during periodic interface meetings.

In addition to the Red Line of the Doha Metro, Italian Contractor Italiana Costruzioni has been appointed for the construction of four more stations on the Gold Line. Artelia has been commissioned to provide the same services already developed for the Red Line for the implementation of the fit-out works.

The difference between the two assignments is that for the Gold Line, closer coordination between architectural works and MEP installations is required for Artelia, and that the time scale for the engineering phase is tighter, requiring a bigger coordination effort with the construction team due to the fact that the level of complexity of the materials and finishing remains the same.

The design is also being developed with BIM, using Revit software and other 3D modelling software.
