Upgrading and refurbishment of a former banking data centre

Nation Data Center (NDC) aims to create a network of sovereign, local and eco-responsible data centres in France. The company has appointed Artelia to upgrade and refurbish a former bank data centre in Val-de-Reuil (West of France).

The programme involves increasing the initial power (from 1.2 to 1.8 MW) and upgrading the facilities to achieve the highest levels of energy efficiency (PUE 1.2).

CONTEXT & ISSUES

NDC wants to offer its customers a top-of-the-range data hosting service in terms of security, connectivity and environmental quality. Located near the city of Rouen, less than 100 km from Paris, in the heart of a major industrial park, the project includes the development of a surface geothermal installation as the main source of cooling, and photovoltaic production over the entire surface of the roof and car parks, which will be supported by two power plants equipped with redundant generators.

Artelia is paying particular attention to the design of these energy production and cooling systems in order to achieve the best levels of energy performance available today: a PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of 1.2, one of the highest currently available. Our teams have also implemented a number of sustainable actions (re-use strategy, clean building site, life cycle analysis, etc.).
