Ground-mounted solar power plants and carports in Coquelles

A pioneer in energy transition, ARTELIA is supporting EUROTUNNEL in the solarisation of its French terminal in Coquelles in the Pas-de-Calais region. This installation is in line with Getlink’s LowCarbon objectives for more sustainable transport.

CONTEXT & ISSUES

EUROTUNNEL follows an environmental policy based on the following two main pillars: decarbonising its energy consumption and controlling its energy-related costs. The company has consulted on using the available land (60 to 70 hectares spread around the Calais, Sangatte and Coquelles areas) to produce green energy, which would be used to power its operations and supply the train traction network.

EUROTUNNEL has laid the foundations for a solar PV project to build 8 solar PV power plants (ground-mounted and carports)with a total output of 46.3MWp in the towns of Coquelles, Peuplingues, Frethun and Calais.

The installations must be deployed without disrupting car park operations or the transport of goods and people.

Artelia is contributing to the success of this large-scale project as project manager. Its teams of experts in photovoltaics, rail connections and inter-site coordination are drawing on all their expertise to design and manage this ambitious programme.
