DATA CENTERS
Our data center specialists are committed to designing and implementing high-performance, sustainable, resilient, and scalable facilities that support speed-to-market, commercial viability, and long-term operability.
RESPONDING TO THE RISE OF THE CLOUD AND AI
Over the past decade, the growth of cloud services, connected devices and digital platforms has significantly increased demand for data storage, processing and transmission.. Generative AI is further accelerating this demand, driving the need for higher-density facilities, greater power availability, advanced cooling strategies and faster delivery programmes.
This shift is reshaping the data centre market. Hyperscale data centres with tens, or even hundreds, of megawatts of IT load are being developed, while existing facilities are being upgraded to meet new standards for performance, resilience and efficiency.
In response to this growth, government authorities in several countries are imposing strict targets regarding PUE and WUE (energy and water efficiency), the integration of renewable energy, and decarbonization. Other important issues concern the location of data centers, particularly with regard to power grid capacity, water availability, climate resilience, and the impact on local communities. In addition to compliance with ESG criteria, data sovereignty laws require the establishment of local infrastructure and adherence to national standards.
With over 25 years of data centre experience Artelia brings the technical, environmental and delivery expertise needed to support the next generation of resilient, efficient and scalable digital infrastructure.

ADAPTING TO THE AMBITIONS OF EVERY DEVELOPER AND OPERATOR
Our specialized teams support all developers and operators at every stage of their projects and throughout the lifecycle of their data centers. They work on projects ranging from greenfield developments to the upgrading and expansion of existing facilities.
- Digital operators: global cloud, AI and hyperscale providers requiring resilient, scalable and high-density infrastructure
- Specialized operators (colocation, edge) : developers of data centers for wholesale or retail leasing, operating on a global, regional, or national scale.
- Companies and institutions: private and government end users who wish to retain control over their data.
- Landowners and real estate investors: seeking to unlock the value of sites through data center development.

SUPPORTING THE TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF DATA CENTER PROJECTS
Artelia supports data center projects across the full lifecycle, from early feasibility and concept design through to delivery, commissioning and operational optimisation.
Depending on the needs of the project, our teams can act as:
- Lead Designer – coordinating the overall design response, managing technical interfaces and ensuring alignment across disciplines.
- Solutions Architect – defining the technical strategy for resilient, scalable and efficient facilities, including Tier, MEP and operational performance requirements.
- Technical Expert – providing specialist input across critical systems, technical compliance, risk management and performance optimisation.
- Environmental Consultant – collaborating with the competent authority (AJH) regarding compliance with local regulations, industrial risks (the SEVESO Directive within the European Union; ICPE regulations in France, etc.), and project acceptability.
- Project and Construction Manager – for a full coordination from early stages to handover, high level risk management and schedule optimization during design and construction.
- EPC Manager – Leveraging our in-depth knowledge of equipment with long lead times and the relevant suppliers, implementation strategies and prefabrication principles that help accelerate the pace of construction.
This is supported by integrated multidisciplinary expertise across:
- High-voltage substations engineering
- Power and electrical infrastructure
- Cooling and Mechanical systems
- Fire protection and life safety
- ICT, security and building systems
- Civil Engineering and Utilities
- Structural Engineering
- Sustainability, certification and ESG
- Project, design and construction management
- Scheduling and coordination
- Architecture
DELIVERING OUR ADDED VALUE ON STRATEGIC ISSUES
Our data center specialists draw on both their industry experience and the Group’s extensive expertise and know-how in industrial buildings and facilities, energy, water, the environment, urban planning, and more. Artelia can thus help data centers benefit from best practices in these areas and facilitate their integration into local communities.
