Artelia designed one of the world’s most beautiful airports
according to the UNESCO-backed Prix Versailles
Terminal 3 of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (China) has recently been distinguished by the UNESCO-backed Prix Versailles, which selected it among the world’s most beautiful airports alongside several landmark international projects.
Artelia is proud to have contributed to this major international project, designed in collaboration with the Guangdong Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute (GDAD). Commissioned in October, 2025, the 422,000 m² terminal was designed to accommodate up to 30 million passengers per year. A true architectural and cultural showcase, the project reinterprets Guangzhou’s identity through a design inspired by the symbolic cycle of clouds, water, and flowers — a tribute to the city’s history and its heritage linked to the Maritime Silk Road.
Terminal 3 was planned as far more than a transit space: a fluid, light-filled, and immersive living environment offering an intuitive and high-quality passenger experience. Landscaped terraces, open atriums, and spaces inspired by Lingnan culture contribute to making this infrastructure a new international architectural landmark.
This recognition by the Prix Versailles celebrates the project’s architectural ambition, user experience, and quality of cultural integration, while reaffirming Artelia’s ability to develop major airport infrastructures around the world.
