CONTEXT & ISSUES

The consortium Nuevo Pudahuael (Aéroports de Paris, Vinci Airports and Astaldi) won in February 2015 the tender launched by the Chilean government on the basis of a referential project for the concession and development of Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago, one of the most dynamic regional hubs in Latin America.  

The project consists of the refurbishment and expansion of existing facilities (Terminal 1 building and airport infrastructures) and the construction of a new Terminal 2 bringing the total capacity to 30 Mpax.  

We were appointed by VCGP, within their EPC contract, to develop the airside infrastructures package, the architectural and special airport systems design studies for T1 & T2, as well as for the two covered carpark buildings.  

We developed the referential project, using exclusively BIM to deliver a detailed architectural design.  

The project received a Silver BIM Award in 2017.

  • Development of architectural design studies fully in BIM up to the PRO (detailed design) stage for the new T2 passenger terminal, as well as for the renovation and extension of Terminal T1 and the two parking structures (T1 & T2 – 30 million passengers by 2030).
  • Design studies of special airport systems and equipment in BIM (BHS, PBB, VDGS, CUTE, BRS, GMS, FIDS, BIDS, AODB) and preparation of tender documents.
  • Development of airside infrastructure design studies (runways and aprons) up to the PRO stage.
  • Technical expertise for updating the master plan and construction phasing plans.
  • Landscape design.
  • Airside infrastructure (aircraft stands, taxiways).
  • Landside road infrastructure (roads and parking facilities).
  • Utility networks: potable water, fire water, wastewater, stormwater, etc.

Electrical systems including: building power supply and distribution, 400Hz systems for the new ITB, Visual Docking Guidance Systems (VDGS), airfield lighting and marking, IT/ELV systems, and CNS/ATM equipment.
