LDLC Arena

Creating a large multi-purpose entertainment facility on a brownfield site

The Lyon metropolitan authority has given the Olympique Lyonnais (OL) the green light to build a multifunctional complex able to host cultural, sporting and economic events.

OL has entrusted Artelia with the management of this project, which will be built on a brownfield site that already houses the Groupama Stadium, and will have to comply with strict environmental specifications.

CONTEXT & ISSUES

Located in Décines, on the OL Vallée site, this Arena will complete the city’s offer by providing a multifunctional facility with a capacity of over 15,000 people. It could host over a hundred events a year (concerts, basketball, handball and futsal matches, e-sport competitions, shows for young audiences, seminars, etc.). The Lyon Metropolitan Area has carried out extensive consultation work to ensure that this project fully meets the needs of the population and is in line with the challenges of sustainability in the urban area.

The Arena will be built on a former industrial wasteland, on a site already well connected to the public transport network (tramway). The site will have to be ecologically neutral (compensation, recycling of materials, etc.). With a footprint of 14,500 m2, the building will have a maximum height of 34 m and will incorporate a range of technical solutions to limit its environmental impact (light roof with some vegetation, solar panels, etc.). Green areas planted with trees and a 500-space cycle parking area are also planned. Artelia has brought its multidisciplinary skills and sustainable building specialists to achieve this project.
