STMicroelectronics Bouskoura

Expansion of chip manufacturing and test capabilities

A major world player in the production of electronic chips, the STMicroelectronics group has made numerous investments in recent years to increase its production capacity and meet the growing demand for printed circuit boards, particularly from the electric vehicle industry. Artelia is assisting in the expansion of its plants. At Bouskara, near Casablanca, our teams oversaw the construction of some 7,500 m2 of new clean rooms.

CONTEXT & ISSUES

With 14 main manufacturing sites worldwide and almost 20% of its workforce engaged in R&D activities, STMicroelectronics is one of the world’s leading semiconductor companies. It masters the entire value chain (design, manufacturing, marketing). In the Moroccan town of Bouskoura, STMicroelectronics operates a back-end assembly and test plant, specializing in cutting-edge silicon carbide products used in electric cars by the world’s leading automakers. The expansion program initiated in 2021 has increased the plant’s cleanroom space by around 7,000 m², bringing the total site area to around 35,000 m².

Artelia was in charge of the design and construction supervision for this extension, which was carried out on the second level of the main building, on an occupied site, while the first level remained in operation. Our teams managed all the components of the project (ISO7 clean rooms, access locks, etc.), mobilizing the Group’s various skills in structural and fluid engineering (air, water, gas, etc.) and ultra-cleanliness (clean concept).
