Oriocenter in Bergamo

Extension of one of Italy’s largest shopping centres

Located opposite Orio al Serio international airport on the edge of Bergamo, this shopping centre is one of the largest in Italy. Owned by Commerz Real, it has undergone two successive extensions, managed by Artelia. The extension carried out between 2015 and 2017 enabled it to become one of the largest shopping centres in Italy.

CONTEXT & ISSUES

Inaugurated in 1998, the Oriocenter was modelled on an American mall. Its success led to an initial extension in 2004, bringing its total surface area to 70,000 m2 and its capacity to accommodate almost 200 shops. Ten years later, Finser and the German company Commerz Real Ag decided to invest in a new extension and asked Artelia Italia, already involved in the first operation, to manage the project.

This new project has enabled Oriocenter to become one of Italy’s largest shopping centres, with almost 105,000 m2 of floor space and 280 shops, including several dedicated to luxury brands. The new space has been used to double and diversify the restaurant offer (50 bars and restaurants), install a 4* hotel and fit out a 14-screen multiplex with a giant Imax screen. It also served the centre’s strategy of organising events.
